The main objective of Research Area 9 is to explore new approaches, methodologies, solutions and tools that can provide adequate security guarantees for the current application scenarios, as a result of the rapid acceleration towards widespread digital transformation. In particular, researchers working on the topics covered by RA 9 will focus on four reference scenarios, which are considered strategically important for the near future: (i) the development of decentralized finance solutions based on secure distributed technologies such as distributed ledgers and smart contracts; (ii) the strengthening of data security and privacy features in services provided by public authorities as part of e-government programmes; (iii) the proposal of remote healthcare solutions based on personal devices, which are essential for the more efficient management of patients affected by chronic diseases or those requiring continuous monitoring; (iv) the development of quantum key distribution technologies for critical applications.
